Our very own technical whizz Patrick Welton, who is also a part of Salterns Sailing club, took Stone Bake’s Mezzo mobile unit to Bart’s Bash in Lymington, Hampshire last weekend to do some fund raising for the very worthy cause!
The Foundation is a charity that was set up in Andrew Simpson’s memory in 2013 to inspire the next generation of young people through sailing in the UK and around the world.
A bit about Andrew, nicknamed ‘Bart’:
Andrew was an English sailor. He won a gold medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, representing Great Britain. Simpson was tragically killed in the capsize of the catamaran he was crewing on 9th May 2013, while training for the America’s Cup in San Francisco Bay.
The inaugural Bart’s Bash is a sailing race that is run by sailing clubs all around the world on behalf of the charity, the Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation. These sailing clubs all participate in their own events, which include sailing race days and fun days for families and friends to get involved in.
A team of helpers including friends from Salterns Sailing Club, Stone Bake’s Managing Director Tom and product developer, Geoff, joined Patrick in the pizza carnage! Freshly made, authentic pizzas were flying out of the wood fired oven and into the hands and mouths of hungry passers by. It’s definitely safe to say that it was dough, flour and pizza toppings galore! The Little Red Pizza co stand, mobile oven unit and a real team effort made the day a huge success – they raised over £700 for the charity!!
Stone Bake was extremely proud to be a part of the day and help out with such a fantastic, worthy cause.
