Calcium Silicate Boards are high heat, commercial grade insulating boards. Both the Primo and Mezzo are made from an insulating aggregate, meaning the oven will retain heat for well over 4 hours without adding fuel to the fire. To ‘build your oven in’ or to boost your ovens heat retention to well over 24+ hours, insulate the oven floor with calcium silicate insulation board. Want to insulate your oven even further? Then we’d recommend an insulation kit, which includes the calcium silicate, as well as insulation wool for your oven dome, and a decorative archway. However, if you just want to insulate the base of the oven, then calcium silicate board is right for you.
Calcium silicate board is especially helpful, and often essential, if you want to protect the material that your oven is sitting on. In many circumstances, it is important that the oven does not sit directly on certain materials (for example, wood) for safety purposes. Even materials that are heat proof, like concrete, may still conduct heat down into the materials below them. Calcium silicate ensures that the heat is bounced back up into your oven dome, rather than down into the material below. So, even if you aren’t planning on insulating your oven, it may still be worth looking into getting some calcium silicate board. Please note: these boards are only suitable for the Primo or Mezzo. Vento and Gusto ovens come with calcium silicate boards included as part of the insulation.
